In last week’s Friday Favorites, I mentioned that I was home for Christmas and there would be no Friday Favorites this week. I have decided to take the whole week off, so there will not be a travel post today. I am enjoying time with friends and family this week and unfortunately, I am also feeling a bit under the weather. I hope that if you are celebrating the Christmas season, that you are also spending the week with friends or family. If you are traveling, please tell me where in the comments. I love hearing about your travels as well as my own. Next week I will be back with regular posts. For now, I will leave you with my most recent posts on my trip to Bangkok!

Italy Bound and Blog Vacation

July 16, 2015

Today I am bound for a one week vacation in Italy! I am flying to Rome and driving eventually making my way north to Venice. The first three days are being spent with friends in their small village in Umbria, which I am very excited about. My next planned stop is Verona. Along the way to Verona, I will stop and see what there is to see. Then on to Venice for three days!

The goal of this trip is to relax and enjoy, so I have decided not to blog while I am away. I will still post to Instagram, Twitter and Facebook though. When I get back, I will catch you all up on my adventures in Italy. This is my second trip to Italy. I spent a week in Rome for Christmas 2013 and you can read about Christmas in Rome and my first day in Rome here.

Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award

July 1, 2015

sisterhood-of-the-world-bloggers-014

I got another award from a fellow blogger, Just Chasing Rabbits! Thank you so much Jennifer. Jennifer and I were originally connected through a social media group for travel bloggers on Facebook. The group has been really supportive and I have enjoyed reading their blogs.  So in a similar style to the Liebster Award, I will answer Jennifer’s questions and then pose questions to other bloggers. With this one though, I am going to try to do just travel blogs. This is so you can learn more about me and hopefully, you will discover some new blogs that you like.

1. How long have  you considered yourself a traveler?

Most of my life. My parents had me flying as a baby to go visit my grandparents. We were also always going on road trips somewhere. Both my parents and grandparents are/were travelers.

2. What is your funniest travel story?

I am actually not sure. I don’t know if I have a funny one. I have scary ones and weird ones, but not funny. Darn it, something funny needs to happen to me on a trip now!

3. Why is travel important?

Travel is important because you learn about yourself as you learn about the world. Every time I travel, I learn about myself. On my last trip to Paris, I learned that after visiting with family for three and a half days, I don’t want to spend 5 days alone. I was a bit sad without them. I learned that I also don’t like big cities anymore. I was much happier when I spent a night out in Giverny, France.

4. What is the biggest lesson this world has taught you?

Patience! Everything usually works out in the end. Try not to stress about it, which can be hard to follow.

5. If I could change one thing about the world, what would it be?

That we could get along no matter our race, religion or sexual orientation. That would make this world a better place.

6. Couple or solo travel? Why?

Solo for me. I get to do what I want on my own schedule. If I want to wander down a road, there is no one stopping me. I haven’t traveled much with other people as an adult. My best friend and I do really well together traveling. I never traveled with a significant other, so I have no idea about that.

7. What is one travel tip you would you’d tell to a fellow traveling sister (packing tip? safety tip?)?

Actually, see #4! Not only is it the biggest thing I have learned but also the best thing you can be while traveling. At least one thing isn’t going to go as planned, but eventually it gets fixed and you go on.

8. What one destination could you visit again and again without ever tiring of it? Why?

Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos Islands. It is beautiful and peaceful. The island is very small and there isn’t much to do, but that is the great thing. You can truly relax. See my post on it here.

9. What is the one item you can never leave home without?

I keep a notebook with me to take down notes or to store stuff in. I also keep them forever so I have them going back a few years. The notebook lives in my purse. It also helps when I have blog ideas to write them down in there.

10. How has blogging been rewarding for you?

You build a community with your blog whether it be your friends and family that want to keep up with you, but also people you have never met. I belong to a blogging group here called, BloggingME, which is for bloggers in the Middle East. We meet once a month to discuss ideas or have some training. We also get invited to events this way and it’s really nice. The Facebook group I met Jennifer through has also been great.

My Questions:

1. Why do you like to travel?
2. What is your favorite vacation spot?
3. What is the most unique thing you have eaten on a trip?
4. Do you have a favorite piece of travel gear?
5. Do you prefer budget or luxury travel? (I don’t assume that everyone wants a luxury experience)
6. What was the coolest hotel/apartment you have stayed in while traveling and do you have pictures on you blog?
7. What is your favorite historic place?
8. What is your dream vacation?
9. How do you sleep on a plane?
10. What is your biggest travel pet peeve?
