Today I am bound for a one week vacation in Italy! I am flying to Rome and driving eventually making my way north to Venice. The first three days are being spent with friends in their small village in Umbria, which I am very excited about. My next planned stop is Verona. Along the way to Verona, I will stop and see what there is to see. Then on to Venice for three days!
The goal of this trip is to relax and enjoy, so I have decided not to blog while I am away. I will still post to Instagram, Twitter and Facebook though. When I get back, I will catch you all up on my adventures in Italy. This is my second trip to Italy. I spent a week in Rome for Christmas 2013 and you can read about Christmas in Rome and my first day in Rome here.

It looks like you’ve rented a car which I highly recommend. Just keep your eyes open for adventure, little restaurants in farmer’s houses, etc. Such landscapes around. Verona is a delight, so much to see. And any city with pink marble sidewalks and streets has got to be good. There is a wall painted in trompe-l’oueil that I love just around the corner from Danté’s monument.
If you have time, Mantova and Padova (oldest city in northern Italy) are both delightful. Some of my favorite spots in Italy. The art is fabulous in both, as well as architecture and ruins. In Mantova, ask where you can try “pizza di ceci”…I recall one place near the university.
A short drive from Verona will take you up into the mountains which have small villages with a totally different feel. Several valleys including the Valpolicella full of vineyards and vegetable gardens. And there is always the Lago di Garda if you haven’t seen the Italian lakes.
Have lots of fun. My favorite thing is to travel Italy by car with no strict plans.
The car was great!
